Anantnag : The stone tablet recovered from river Jhelum during sand extraction has been taken in possession by the Archaeology department here on Tuesday.

According to officials ADDC Anantnag Khawaja Nazir Ahmad and other officials include Tehsildar Anantnag went to the house of workers yesterday who had found the stone and took it in their possession.

Talking to GMK , ADDC Anantnag said that he read the news and asked officials to take prompt action.

“We went to the workers home yesterday, discussed with them and they provided us the stone,” he said.

ADDC said that they have intimidated Director Archaeology department Muneer-ul-Islam about the stone as well.

“We handed over the stone Archaeology department today and due credits will be given to the workers who found it and preserved it,” he said.

He said it is up to researchers and investigators how they want to pursue the case and only they can tell us what is the worth of the stone and the inscriptions.

“If we can unravel anything about history, the efforts are not waste. Let researchers take a look on it,” he said.
