Woman delivers baby on cab as hospital refuses ambulance
Srinagar : A woman delivered her baby in a cab after a hospital authorities in Kupwara allegedly ignored her husband’s plea for an ambulance.
The incident came to light on Saturday after the family accusing the hospital authorities for not giving an ambulance to patient.
Reports said that , Mohammad Shafi of Sarkoli Kalaroos said that, doctors at a local hospital had referred his pregnant wife to Kupwara District Hospital but they refused to allot them an ambulance due to which his wife delivered a baby on way to the healthcare facility.
Earliet on January, Suraya Begum, a resident of Moori, had labour pain at her home following which she was carried by her husband Wazir Ahmad and other relatives for 10 km to the nearby medical facility at Kalaroos.
“Moori , a remote place which was covered under five feet snow during then . The family along with a patient during then left at 4 am after she developed pain and took her on their shoulders to the nearby medical facility at Kalaroos where doctors saw her and told them to go to Kupwara Hospital.
At Kupwara the doctors gave them ambulance and referred them to Srinagar’s Lal Ded Hospital where they reached at 4 pm, They did some tests and then wrote a prescription telling them to go home at 8 PM. The patient as well as attendants requested them thrice to allow them to stay for the night but the doctor used very objectionable language and forced them out of the hospital.
Then the relative of the patient boarded an auto and reached Bemina where the patient went into labour and gave birth to a stillbirth on roadside.
The incident during then created furore in Kashmir with politicians seeking strict action from the Governor.
Mohammad Shafi, a husband of the woman who delivered her baby in a cab, demanded stern action against the doctors.
