Shab-e-Baraat celebrated with fervour across Valley

Srinagar: Shab-e-Baraat was observed with religious fervour across the Kashmir valley. People were seen visiting graveyards from Saturday evening even as nightlong prayers were offered at different mosques and shrines.
Shab-e-Baraat is observed on the 15th night of the Shabaan month of the Islamic calendar. According to a tradition, though not believed by all Muslims, Allah determines the fate of all people for the coming year during the night of Shab-e-Baraat only.

Special prayers were held in Masjid’s shrines and other religious places including historic Jamia Masjid and Charar-e-Shareef.

The shrines as well as the local Masjid’s were decorated all across the valley.

Muslims offered special prayers in Masjids till midnight while as at various places the prayers continued till morning during which clerics delivered sermons and highlighted the teachings of Islam.

The huge gathering of devotees was witnessed in historic Jamia Masjid, Hazratbal shrine and Charar-e-Shareef Shrine.
Besides, similar religious gatherings were also witnessed in other districts headquarters of the Valley.

Apart from nightlong prayers and supplications, a large section of Muslims especially pray for forgiveness from the deceased members of their families.

Locals visit graveyards throughout the course of the night and some also light candles and incense sticks there.
