Two militants killed in Bijbehara gunfight: Police
Srinagar : Two militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday morning.
The police spokesman in a statement issued here said that, ” On a credible input a cordon and search operation was launched at Bagender Mohalla Bijbehara area in District Anantnag, by Police and security forces.”
During searches, militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, he said .
In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter, the spokesman said.
Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained. Further search in the area is going on.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case, he added.
The police appealed general public , not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
