9 killed, 39 injured as weakened Fani passes through Bangladesh
Dhaka: At least nine people died and 39 sustained injuries from Friday to Saturday as the super cyclone Fani is passing through Bangladesh.
As per the reports, A minor boy and two women were killed in Noakhali, Bhola and Bagerhat on Friday night as cyclone ‘Fani’ lashed the south western part of the country.
Besides, around 30 people were injured and hundreds of houses at Char Wapda and Char Jabbar unions were damaged during the storm, said Iqbal Hasan, upazila project implementation of Subarnachar upazila control room.
In Bhola, housewife Rani Begum was killed as a house collapsed on her at Poralia village in Sadar upazila at night.
Besides, the cyclonic storm damaged several hundred houses and uprooted trees and electric poles.
Nasir Ahmed, upazila project implementation of Sharankhola was quoted as saying that cracks had been developed at three points in the embankment of Baleshwar River in the upazila.
