Srinagar: The weather in parts of Kashmir valley on Sunday late afternoon went for a complete toss when charcoal darkness suddenly descended upon the city skies accompanied by a strong, howling high speed wind, hailstorm and showers almost paralysing the Srinagar city and other parts of the valley for over Seventeen minutes beginning around 5.50 pm.

Numerous city residents, who were returning from different parts of the city, were the first respondents to the weather change, with temporary traffic jams occurring across various roads in the Srinagar city.

“We were on the roof top of the house, doing some major repairing work of our house, when all of a sudden hailstorm wreaked havoc, even the winds were so strong that we had to stop working. It became so dark that we felt like the nightime,” said Javed Shah, a resident of Lal Bazar area of Srinagar city.

Speaking to GMK, Ashiq Ahmad, a commuter said, “The pedestrians and two-wheel riders are the worst hit, because they don’t have an additional layer of security with a roof. The parts of valley became dark due to the thick black clouds. Situations like these exponentially increase the risk of facing accidents.
