Ajas, residents protests to demand Degree College

Ajas Bandipora, Feb 18: The residential of Ajas area today staged protest demonstration demanding Degree College.

Large number of peoples assembled here and started protesting against the government. Raising slogans, the protestors highlighted thelong-pending demand of Degree College and urged upon the government for immediate redressal of the same.

They said the enrollment in educational institutes of Ajas has reached respectable level but the state government continued to ignore the demand of Degree College in Ajas.

It is pertinent to mention that Hajin is one of the remote and backward area of the State with a population of more than 45,000 and mostly comprises of lower economy class families. About 95 percent students could not pursue higher education because of non-availability of Degree College in Ajas and their parents are economically not in a position to send them to Sumbal college. “We do not have enough resources to send our children to Sumbal for higher education,” said one of the protestors.

Meanwhile, the traders urged the government to ensure establishment of a degree college in the area as soon as possible.

Protesters appealed Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti and Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari to fulfil the long pending demand of the people by establishing a college in Ajas.
